¶ 01 · The stops, in order

Where this route actually goes.

Each stop earns its nights. The quiz decides how long you stay in each, and whether a stop drops off entirely because it is not you.

Stop 01 · about 2 nights

Zurich

A green river cutting the old town in two, with swimmers drifting down it past stone quays in summer, and a lake at the end of the main street under the twin towers of the Grossmünster.

Good for · first landing, museums, river swimming, nightlife, day trips
Stop 02 · about 2 nights

Lucerne

A wooden covered bridge over green water, paddle steamers pulling out from three piers, and two peaks rising straight off the shoreline.

Good for · first mountains, lake boats, short trips, families

Picks that sit on this route.

From the Switzerland file. Real places, filed by people who went, not scraped from a Top 10 list.

Do · Just outside central Zurich

Uetliberg

Zurich's own mountain, reached by the S10 train, then a short walk to the summit tower for panoramic views over the city, the lake and the distant Alps. A popular solo hike, well-marked trail, easy transit back into the city. Best at sunset, or hike the ridge trail down to the lake for a half-day.

Do · Accessible from Lucerne

Mount Pilatus

Ascend via the world's steepest cogwheel railway (48% gradient) to a summit with restaurants, viewing platforms and mountain hotels, reachable from Lucerne by boat and railway, or the Kriens cable car. A classic solo day trip, well-signed transit connections make it easy to do independently. Cogwheel railway typically runs late spring to autumn.

Do · Near Lucerne station

Rosengart Collection

A private collection focused on Picasso and Paul Klee, plus Monet, Matisse and others, 300-plus works across three floors, including Angela Rosengart's personal photographs of Picasso. Compact and walkable from the main station.

Do · Interlaken / Beatenberg

Tandem Paragliding

10 to 20 minutes of tandem paragliding, launching from Beatenberg or near Harder Kulm at about 800m above the valley, landing in central Interlaken. One of the few extreme activities that works cleanly for a solo traveller, since you fly tandem with a pilot regardless of whether you came with a group. Weather-dependent, book ahead.

Eat · Zurich

Zürcher Geschnetzeltes

Sliced veal in a cream and white wine sauce with mushrooms. Zurich's own dish, and almost always plated with rösti.
